The Reflex – Move Your Feet to the Retro Beats

Mark your calendars for May 10th!! Have you done it yet? I’ll wait… The Reflex starts on that date, and you don’t want to miss it.

The Reflex is no longer a lonely child, it is a Retro Dance Party at Sweet Janes on 88 Pratt Street. Sweet Janes is Hartford's newest nightspot, with a rock and roll twist, and we are taking it over every Wednesday night, from 9pm til close.

The Shag Frenzy duo is taking you back in time, and left of the dial, spinning our favorite retro tunes. From Glam to Punk, New Wave to Disco, The Reflex is a treasure in the dark.

Saturday night was fantastic – a big thank you to all who came out to the Webster Underground!! The wonderful Tom has already put up the pictures at Shag Frenzy – just a sampling of our two favorite bartenders:

April Showers bring new music - Clear Static show and more

Much love to Scary Bunnies for the lovely mention of our new blog. If you have not read Scary bunnies, it is the essential Hartford blog.

Clear Static show last night was wonderful, but very short. There was a pretty good reception for them as well – perhaps others are addicted to watching the “Make Up Sex” video currently “On Demand”. It was obvious most people were there to see Kill Hannah, but we are still in that post vacation stupor, so we cut out after seeing Clear Static. So what do they sound like? I hear a lot of Duran Duran, which makes me like every other music journo to review the band. Mr. Strangler and I have been listening to the record quite a bit, and just love the synths and newer wave vocals. Though Mount Sims did a wonderful remix of the single, most of the stuff is dancey on its own.

This Friday is the return of the Hipster Happy Hour at Room 960. Both Johnny Strangler and myself will be spinning the indielicious lounge tunes, plus trying out a few new ones pre-Shag Frenzy. Check it out after work (5-7pm), and enjoy the $3 minitinis as a warm up to Saturday night. After that, it is off to the Webster Underground for the new goth/industrial night Theatro del Orrore. Our wonderful doorman Vinny is starting this up for all those people who still reminisce about the heyday of Bound.

Our nice, long vacation has given us a chance to listen to a bunch of new music. We have been seriously digging the new Eagles of Death Metal, the upcoming Radio 4 release, The Spinto Band, as well as all sorts of loveliness from the wonderful Totes Umbrellas and Rich Girls are Weeping blogs. Other stuff we plan to play this weekend (besides tracks from the upcoming DFA Remixes album): the Le Tigre mix of Standing in the Way of Control from the Gossip, the Subways, Test Icicles, Belle and Sebastian, Lady Sovereign, Tom Vek, She Wants Revenge, Every Move a Picture, Hard Fi, Goldfrapp, Calla, and more.

Shag Frenzy this Saturday

April's edition of Shag Frenzy is this Saturday, and it promises to be better than ever thanks to the folks at Astralwerks. The first 50 people receive a wonderful SXSW Comp of Astralwerks artists (it has some GRATE stuff-promise!) .
We also will be playing the new DFA remix album (Le Tigre, Gorillaz, Chemical Brothers) - it is HOT!! We have some vinyl copies of the DFA album, as well as the debut Editors' Back Room album, to give away as well.

18 to Shag, 21 to Frenzy. Cover is only $5, plus drink specials (just ask our lovely bartenders)

Dance to the underground...come out and disco down. We always play the beats that keep ya neat.
